Mission Statement
The Winterwood Men’s Golf Association exists for the sole purpose of providing recreation, pleasure, and fellowship for the members.
The Winterwood Men’s Golf Association (WWMGA) offers one of the best golf values in Southern Nevada. The Club benefits the scratch golfer, the high handicapper, and everyone in between by eliminating the need to find a course to play, putting together a foursome, and scheduling a tee time. The Club maintains a handicap for each member, and pays member dues to the Southern Nevada Golf Association (SNGA) and the United States Golf Association (USGA). We currently have a roster of 119 members which includes an eight member Board of Directors. The tournaments for each year are scheduled in advance at the end of the previous year (see Tournament Schedule for current schedule). Tournaments are held every other Sunday. We are based in Boulder City and most of our tournaments are held at our home course, the Boulder City Golf Course. We regularly host away tournaments as well. In recent years we held tournaments at Boulder Creek (Boulder City), Mountain Falls (Pahrump), Casa Blanca (Mesquite), and Las Vegas National. The biggest advantage for the average golfer looking to play regularly with as little effort as possible is that at Winterwood all you have to do is sign up and show up! It’s as simple as that.
WWMGA has been around for over 50 years. It began at the course that gave it its name, the Winterwood Golf Course in Las Vegas that was located off of Sahara Ave. and Nellis Blvd. The original Winterwood Golf Course later became Desert Rose Golf Course, and later still, The Club at Sunrise (its current incarnation). In the 1980s, WWMGA left the Winterwood Course and travelled around with no particular course to call home. The Board of Directors then petitioned the Boulder City Council to request the right to base itself in Boulder City at the Boulder City Municipal Golf Course. As a way of saying Thank You to the town of Boulder City, the Winterwood Men’s Golf Association hosts the Charity Classic Golf Tournament in May of each year. Proceeds from the tournament go toward a scholarship fund for members of the Boulder City High School Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams. To date, Winterwood has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships for these deserving members of the BCHS Golden Eagle golf teams.

Tournaments
Winterwood hosts approximately 25 tournaments per year (shotgun start). Each tournament is flighted (flights based on handicap and number of players) The format is stroke play and prizes are awarded for lowest gross and net scores. All USGA rules apply and members are encouraged to read the Rules of Golf and familiarize themselves with the rules of play as well as course etiquette. In order to ensure an enjoyable round for all members, each group is expected to complete its round in 4.5 hours. Slow play will not be tolerated. Greens fees for each tournament are paid to the host course the day of the tournament. A $10 tournament fee is paid to the Club and is used as the prize fund. Prizes are awarded as gift cards redeemable at the host course pro shop.
Members can sign up for each tournament at the Boulder City Golf Course (sign up sheet is on the Winterwood bulletin board) or by calling the tournament number 702-378-9775 (voicemail only, please do not text to this number). The message is updated after each tournament so just leave your information and you will be signed up for the next tournament. The sign up deadline is the Wednesday prior to the day of play.
The following rules will be strictly enforced:
Late Arrivals and No-Shows
- If you sign up for a tournament and fail to show up you will be assessed a $20 fine and will not be eligible to play in future events until the fine is paid.
- Check in at the tournament table no later than 60 minutes prior to tee time/shotgun start time. The tournament table will close promptly at this time. Any member who fails to check in on time will be considered a no-show and assessed the $20 fine. If you are running late, call another member and have him check you in.
- Withdrawal from a tournament must be made by 10 am on the day preceding the first day of play. Call the tournament number (702-378-9775) and leave a message that you have withdrawn. Voice message only. Failure to withdraw by the cutoff will result in the $20 fine.
Scorecards
- Each group has an official scorecard with signature lines for Scored By and Attested By.
- Each group is encouraged to keep a second scorecard as backup.
- Once the round is complete, the cards should be compared for accuracy.
- Once everyone in the group agrees on the final scores, the card MUST BE SIGNED by the Scorer and one other player as the Attest.
- Once turned in to the tournament table, the card is final. There will be no further discussion of posted scores.

Tournament Schedule 2024
Please note, the following will apply to all Winterwood tournaments:
All players are required to check in to the tournament table at least 45 minutes prior to tee off. The tournament table will close at this time and anyone who fails to check in on time will not be allowed to participate in the tournament. You may still pay your green fees and play, but you will not be eligible for tournament prizes, closest to the pin, or participation in the Shootout qualifier.
Handicaps
Winterwood maintains a handicap for all members through the SNGA and the Golf Handicap & Information Network (GHIN). All Winterwood tournament scores are posted by the Handicap Director, unless otherwise stated. Handicaps are managed by the World Handicap System. As such, a member’s handicap is updated following the posting of each round.
Rounds played outside the Club should be posted as well. Members can turn their scorecards in at the Boulder City Golf Course or post them themselves on the GHIN website. The website can be accessed from home, a mobile device, or on the Club’s computer at the Boulder City Golf Course.
It is paramount that all members post the score of all rounds played outside the club (format permitting – no posting is required for formats such as a Scramble, Alternate Shot, etc.). The Handicap Committee may apply a Penalty Score under certain conditions. The following is excerpted from the Rules of Handicapping. Any score that falls under the third bullet outlined below, will be posted by the Handicap Committee as an even par 72.
Membership
The annual membership fee is $135 (Renewing Members) or $150 (New Members). Renewal membership is due on the first of January each year. Current members who do not renew their membership by the due date will be deactivated in the system, and, upon submission of their renewal, will be charged the new member rate of $150.

Shootout
The Shootout is a single elimination tournament held annually in autumn following the Club Championship. The field consists of 19 players who qualified for the tournament by shooting the lowest net rounds throughout the year. One player is eliminated on each hole and the last man standing on the 18th green is the Shootout Champion. The tournament begins on Saturday at noon with all nineteen players teeing off on the first hole. The player who nets the highest score is eliminated. Ties are settled by a chip off. Play continues until sundown with as many holes completed as possible and resumes the next day at sunup.
The following rule changes for the Shootout have been approved by the Winterwood Board:
- Handicap for each player will be the lower of either their qualifying handicap or current handicap at time of play
- One stroke handicap maximum on par 3s regardless of player’s handicap
- Any ball in a hazard during a chip off is out of play regardless of proximity to the hole
- Any qualifying member who fails to renew his membership by the deadline will be removed from the list and will have to requalify upon renewal of his membership

The entry fee for this event is $70 for Winterwood members and $90 for non-members. The entry fee includes greens fees, golf cart rental, tee prizes, and lunch after the round. There will be a raffle after the round featuring a flat screen TV and many other prizes. Entry Form and Sponsor Letter can be found on the Charity Classic page of this website.
All members are encouraged to play as this is Winterwood’s signature event!
Tournament Check-In
With our current membership topping out at 115 members, we are getting the maximum number of sign-ups for each tournament and it is becoming more difficult to get everyone checked in 30 minutes prior to tee off the day of the tournament. That said, the Tournament Committee is now requiring that all players check in 1 hour ahead of tee off. Therefore, for upcoming events that begin at 7 am, the check in time will be no later than 6 am. This will give the Committee plenty of time to check everyone in, settle all tournament business with the pro shop, and allow the guys time to warm up and prepare for play. If you fail to check in on time before the tournament table closes, you will still be able to play, but you will be considered a NO SHOW as far as the tournament goes. You’ll be assessed a $20 no-show fine and you will not be eligible for any tournament prizes. The guys at the tournament table put in a lot of time and effort to set the tournaments up for us, so your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Reminder: The sign up deadline for Winterwood everts is the Wednesday before the day of play.
Slow Play
As stated above, we are getting the maximum number of sign-ups these days. With a full field (many of whom are new members) the pace of play has slowed down considerably. The most recent tournament took well over 5 hours to complete. This is unacceptable. Every round is required to be completed in no more than 4 ½ hours. It is imperative that each group keeps up with the group in front of it. By keeping pace this will allow the pro shop to honor the tee times they have scheduled behind our tournament. They cannot honor these tee times until our last group has cleared the first tee. Even if you’re having a tough round, there are many things you can do to speed up play:
• If you’re unsure where your shot went, hit a provisional, take the allotted 3 minutes to search for the original, and if not found play the provisional.
• If you’re driving the cart, drop your partner at his ball and then head to yours and be ready to play when it’s your turn.
• Park on the cart path near the back of the green. This shortens the amount of time it takes you to exit the green.
• If you have extra clubs with you on the green, place them in the path you’ll be taking when you leave the green. This will also speed your exit, and prevent you from forgetting those clubs.
• Once off the green, drive immediately to the next tee box so the group behind you can hit up. Once at the tee box, you can clean the clubs you used on the last hole and write everyone’s score down.
• Play ready golf and keep up with the group in front of you!!
